We run this diagnostic for clients now — because we had to run it on ourselves first.
Digitalmacaw.com's organic search impressions fell off a cliff almost overnight — nine months before we even started our own rebrand.
When we pulled our own Google Search Console data, we expected the decline to trace back to our rebrand. It didn't. Impressions had already collapsed from roughly 15,000–20,000 per day down to 1,000–1,500 per day, starting in a single week months earlier — long before any positioning or copy changed.
The real cause was sitting in plain sight in our own Coverage report: dozens of near-duplicate, templated city landing pages — built for markets we had no real presence in — were pulling tens of thousands of impressions each with effectively zero clicks. That pattern is exactly what recent Google quality updates are built to catch. It wasn't a manual penalty. It was an algorithmic judgment that most of the site wasn't worth indexing — and Google was right.
On top of that, we found a second, compounding bug: both www and non-www versions of our homepage were being indexed as separate pages, splitting our own ranking signal in half without us noticing.
None of this showed up as an obvious error. No manual action notice, no crawl error email. Just a slow bleed that only became visible once we actually pulled the data and looked, page by page, at what was really indexed versus what we assumed was working.
We'll run the same GSC and AI-visibility diagnostic on your site that we ran on our own — no pitch deck, just the data.
